Rail Log Network
As the "friction of distance" diminishes, as
transportation and communication costs continue
their rapid decline, timber sellers and timber
buyers have the opportunity to reach distant
customers that they never knew existed, that they
never imagined they could affordably access.
Paneltech's Rail Log Network is a service offering,
currently targeted on the U.S. West, that seeks to
help the company's customers leverage this
exploding array of timber purchase and sale
opportunities.
Paneltech's Rail Log Network has the following
assets:
- The largest private fleet of the largest
capacity, best quality log rail cars in North
America
- Paneltech and Paneltech partner-operated
rail log transloading yards in British Columbia,
Washington State, Oregon, Idaho, California,
Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio and
Minnesota
- Log transload yard established services
- Good working relationships with virtually
all of the buyers and sellers of timber and logs
in the U.S. West and many in the U.S. South,
Chile, and New Zealand
- The power of a growing, large-scale network
- the ability to form unit trains, to secure
very competitive rates from transportation
service providers, to facilitate not only the
transportation of timber products between
distant buyers and sellers but also provide the
best possible current timber and log market
information (translated into "FOB my site"
terms)
- Dynamic log car tracking and management
systems
- Log yard inventory management/control
system

Paneltech is not a timber or log trader.
Only under unusual circumstances will the company
take a timber or log position. This permits
Paneltech to serve as an objective, third-party
advisor to both sellers and buyers. Paneltech's
billings are simple and straightforward -
transparent. They are a function of rail
rates secured by either Paneltech or its customer
(the customer's preference), a function of the type
of railcar required and car turn rates, and a
function of customer dependability/risk and car
repositioning costs. Paneltech routinely works with
barging companies, ocean shipping companies and
short- and long-haul truckers. This facilitates the
development of the most efficient multi-modal
option for any given move.
Primarily in support of its rail log-oriented
logistics business, Paneltech publishes a monthly
newsletter
for its customers and the company sponsors periodic
seminars on current topics important to these same
customers.
